Dr Glenford Mapp (Associate Professor) – DfT funding (£120,000 given up to date)

Middlesex University has been working with the Department for Transport (DfT) to build a number of Connected Vehicle Testbeds (CVTs) to investigate how C-ITS can be deployed throughout the United Kingdom. We have built an extended CVT at our Hendon Campus, which also encompasses 2 miles of the A41. In addition, with Kings College London (KCL) we have deployed a second smaller testbed in Central London that will be used to help test the deployment of 5G, the next mobile communication standard.

We have now received further funding to work with York City Council to build a new Connected Vehicle Testbed in the city of York. This work is a good next step because it will enable us to study the connection and traffic dynamics of an entire city and its rural surroundings. This testbed will also be used to compare different communication technologies that can be used in vehicular environments. Click here to read more: http://www.rktomdx.co.uk/awarded-contracts

Update on VANET Research at MDX Wed 16 Nov, 2-3pm in Comm Rm 3, Town Hall

=============================

MESSAGE FROM GLENFORD please pass this on to anyone who is new and might not be on the distribution list.

=============================

Dear all

We would like to update you on the recent developments in the VANET Research that we are doing here at MDX.

We therefore invite you to a meeting:

When:   Wednesday 16th November from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Where:  Committee Room 3 in the Town Hall

In brief, we have implemented the MDX VANET Testbed on the Hendon Campus: see www.vanet.mdx.ac.uk. This testbed is about to be extended to cover the section of A41 (Watford Way) behind the Campus.

In addition, working along with the Centre for Telecommunications Research (CTR) at Kings College London (KCL), we have managed to secure a grant from the Department for Transport (DfT) to build a new VANET Testbed in Central London along the Strand where KCL is located. This Central London Testbed (CLT) will be connected to our MDX  VANET Testbed using Software Defined Networking (SDN) via the JANET network to form a Federated VANET Cloud System. This system will allow us to do VANET experiments in two different environments.

We hope to see you at the meeting.

Kindest Regards

Dr Glenford Mapp (Associate Professor)

Head of VANET Research Group @MDX

Announcement: ON BEHALF OF Dr GLENFORD MAPP

==============================================

We are pleased to announce the first trial of the Middlesex VANET Research Testbed. The trial will be held from 8th to 15th January 2016.

We propose to place Onboard Units (OBUs) in your vehicles and will ask you to drive around the Hendon Campus and the surrounding area at specific times to get an idea of the traffic pattern in the area. Hence the OBU will be in the vehicle for most of the day.

We would like you and your vehicle to be available on a certain day.

Please email Arindam Ghosh: A.Ghosh@mdx.ac.uk if you are interested in taking part in this trial.

Thank you and Season’s Greetings to all!

The VANET Research Team
